CBD 101 | Natural Problem-Solver aka. What To Expect From Using CBD?

CBD or cannabidiol is a natural compound in the cannabis plant. Although CBD is derived from the cannabis plant, similarly to THC, which causes a euphoric state, CBD is legal and allows you to experience the healing properties of the cannabis plant safely and without harmful side effects.

CBD supports both the body’s and brain’s functions in various ways. It helps prevent sleep problems by making falling asleep more manageable and helps cope with daily stress. The effects and use of CBD still raise many questions, so we hope this article can give an overview of the benefits, administration, and duration of the positive effects of CBD.

How can CBD help me?

Cannabidiol has been studied as a potential new treatment for anxiety, depression, and psychotic disorders. Research shows that CBD can help bring clarity, relaxation, and support better and more restful sleep. Cannabidiol (CBD) has anxiolytic, antidepressant, antipsychotic, antiepileptic, and neuroprotective properties, which means it has huge potential in treating several psychiatric and neurological disorders.

In 2018, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved CBD after it proved effective and safe in treating seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome or Dravet’s Syndrome in patients two years of age and older. Although the scientific results are not conclusive, new studies also show promising potential effects of CBD on the body to cope with daily stress.

What’s the difference between THC and CBD?

As mentioned above, THC is a psychotropic cannabis plant compound that makes a person feel intoxicated. Studies of the differences between CBD and THC show that although CBD and THC both affect the endo-cannabinoid system , they are entirely different chemical compounds. THC acts on CB1 receptors in the brain to produce intoxicating effects, but CBD does not affect these receptors.

While CBD may promote calmness or relaxation, it does not cause intoxication to the user. As mentioned, CBD does not cause euphoria and is not associated with the adverse psychotropic effects of THC. This allows a person to feel the benefits of CBD without the risk of harming their health. Instead, CBD works with the human body to support well-being.

How does using CBD feel?

Although CBD does not cause a feeling of intoxication, it causes a very mild physiological reaction in the brain and body. It creates a positive effect that varies depending on how one’s body reacts to it. The effects of CBD are most often described as feelings of enhanced peace and relaxation.

The highly versatile effects of CBD, which can elicit an adaptogenic response in the body, have also been scientifically demonstrated. This means that CBD can help the body adapt to various changes and stressors depending on the situation, from supporting muscle recovery to coping with stress.

CBD is known for its ability to support relaxation and healthy sleep cycles, but its regular use can also increase energy levels and concentration. Because CBD acts on the body’s internal communication system, its effects can also help restore metabolic balance.

How to take CBD?

CBD can be used and administered in many different ways, but the same natural compounds and active ingredients are at work no matter how it’s consumed. There is no “right” way to use CBD; there’s just the way that works best for you.

Although the most common way to consume CBD is through ingested products, i.e., CBD extracts and oils, the laws in many countries do not allow to sell it as consumable “food”. That’s why Zen Native and other companies often sell CBD oils labeled for external use only.

CBD should be applied directly to the skin or mucous membranes and allowed to reach its effects through the skin. CBD can also be used as a beneficial ingredient in creams, massage oils, gels, or balms.

How long does it take for CBD to take effect?

Feeling the effects depends on how CBD was administered and on each person’s body individually. When applied externally, CBD starts working approximately 10 to 20 minutes after application to the skin. After oral administration, the onset of CBD effects can be felt within 15 to 30 minutes. Many feel the positive effects immediately, but it’s recommended to use it consistently for days or weeks to get the best results.

What is the best way to use CBD?

Choosing the right way to use CBD is the first step in your CBD journey. It is helpful to try several forms of CBD to see which one works best for your body.
